North Dakota DECA is a professional organization for North Dakota students enrolled in marketing educaton courses.
DECA's key components include:
- Leadership Development
- Civic Consciousness / Community Service
- Social Intelligence / Networking
- Vocational Understanding / Career Preparation
North Dakota DECA provides these components at the local and state levels. Each chapter has an advisor who creates leaders in the student members. Each chapter elects chapter officers who develop a program of work which is their planning process for the year. Membership runs from July through June of each year. There are 20 secondary DECA Chapters in North Dakota. Chapters are encouraged to develop a program of work that includes leadership opportunities, community service projects, social activities and the development of career skills during the year.
The Fall Leadership Conference will be held October 19-20, 2008 in Bismarck. Participants will enjoy a social activity at the NBA game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets. The opening session on Sunday evening will feature the 2008-2009 state officers, the Central Region Vice President Isaac Robinson III, and keynote presenter and trainer Amy Gallimore. Workshops will be conducted on Monday by Amy Gallimore, Isaac Robinson III, Stephanie Sandstrom, and Nicole Mathern. The president's luncheon is sponsored by The Marcil Group. Qwest and CHS Foundation are sponsors of the conference.
The State DECA Career Development Conference will be held in Minot at the Holiday Inn, March 15-17, 2009. DECA members from across the state will have the chance to compete at the conference in March, using their classroom knowledge and compete in more than 35 events. The culmination of this conference will include an awards session recognizing the finalists in each competitive event. Those placing in the top two in their event qualify to represent North Dakota at the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California in April and May 2009.
